The Good, The Bad & The Ugly – 2024/25 Gameweek #34

What else could it be, but the 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur’s at Anfield yesterday.

The Good

What else could it be, but the 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspurs at Anfield yesterday.

Liverpool fell behind in the 12th minute to a header from former Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke.

This sparked the Anfield crowd into full volume, giving the players the push they needed to come back and overrun their visitors.

An equaliser from Luis Diaz four minutes later eased the team’s and crowd’s nerves and the energy was set from then on.

By the break, the Reds were 3-1 up following a stunner from Alexis Mac Allister and another goal from Cody Gakpo showing his quick feet for a tall guy.

The second half was more of a damage limitation exercise from Tottenham’s perspective as Liverpool were restricted to a trademark Mo Salah cut-in from the edge of the box and an own goal from Destiny Udogie.

This Was purely academical as nothing was going to stop this Liverpool side.

The (Not) Bad

Liverpool winning their record-equalling 20th top flight league championship.

The Reds have been so dominant this season, they have wrapped up the title with four games remaining to play. The fete was witnessed by former greats Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush, John Barnes’s and Jan Molby to name but a few.

The victory enabled the Anfield faithful to celebrate in the famous old ground for the first time since 1990. The global epidemic robbed them of the chance to do so back in 2020, when the whole world went into lockdown.

Social media is now awash with images of celebrations in the home team dressing room, after a moving rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone between players and staff in front of the Kop, and the rest of the stadium.
