LFC 22/23 – The Good, The Bad And The Ugly – Gameweek #23 & 24

A pack of wolves shown the door. A bore draw, but who can ask for more… could the ugliest kit really be it? The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Another week reviewed at Liverpool Football Club.

The Good

Recording a third win in four Premier League games with a sound 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield.

Just when you thought two of the stand-out players of recent years had lost the plot, Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah produced the goods with a goal each in a vital win for the struggling Reds side.

Frankly, Wednesday nights opposition looked nothing like the team that spanked Liverpool 3-0 at Molineux just a fortnight earlier. That however, was more down to their facing a Reds side that are no longer providing any favours this season by the look of their display.

Energetic, brave and physical. Three words you’ve not been able to use to describe Liverpool of late. Plus a Diogo Jota effort disallowed to underline their dominance.

The Reds’ 21 shots with five on target compared to just five (and one) for the visitors underlined the hosts’ dominance.

“A lot of really good performances tonight which is obviously very helpful.”

The manager was very positive after the game, and the performance gave him every right to be.

“In a couple of days we go again but tonight was obviously exactly what we wanted and we needed; a fantastic atmosphere, a super result and the boys have come through with no major issues, so that’s all good. A lot of really good performances tonight which is obviously very helpful.”

I think that sums it up.

The (Not Too) Bad

This will be the hard-fought 0-0 draw away against Crystal Palace. The result – although looking like more of a bore draw on paper, signified a step forward for Jürgen Klopp and his team.

Selhurst Park is never an easy place to go to, especially in the challenging times we’ve seen the team endure this season.

However, the 2-5 humbling at the hands of Real Madrid seemed to signal a new low for the boys from L4. If the experience has taught them anything, it’s that they need to get their act together. And fast!

This was a match where Liverpool had to stay resolute, and resolute they were. The chance of the game fell to Salah, who’s curled effort rattled the home crossbar.

With the last two results in the bag, dare I say it but the boys are beginning to put a run of results together. And right now, it’s as if nobody has noticed. The next game though, will be a BIG one. Manyoo come to town on Sunday.

The Ugly

Something a tad light-hearted to finish with this week. If rumours on social media are to be believed, which they probably aren’t let’s be fair, Liverpool are about to launch the most hideous away kit in sporting memory.

According to that bastion of spring journalism Sport Bible, Liverpool will done an absolutely hideous green away kit next season.

The images which were “leaked” (yes, of course they were!) on social media show a top which is green and white where the two colours fade into each other as if the ink ran.

I’d be surprised if this monstrosity sees the light of day. But when I think back to Liverpools Spice Boy outfits in the 1996 FA Cup final, anything is possible. But, at least those suits had style. This kit…? Just vile!
