LFC: The Good, The Bad And The Ugly – 2023/24 Gameweek #1

The season starts with a draw, and transfer targets don’t want to come anymore! Striker shows he’s well upset, making way to a newbie who may surprise us yet. Stadium plans face a new blow, because the contractors have gone bust you know! The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, at Liverpool FC. The weekly review from the LFC File.

The Good

The Reds managed a draw away to Chelsea on their first game of the 2023/24 Premier League season.

Luis Díaz put the visitors ahead on 18 minutes only for Chelsea to level as half time approached and Liverpool began to run out of ideas. Both sides had goals ruled out for off side, and the hosts were luck not to concede a penalty when Nicolas Jackson handled in the Blues’ box.

In the end a decent result at a difficult venue, where the players are making an extra effort to please new boss Mauricio Pochettino.

The Bad

Liverpool were left embarrassed after their record breaking bid for Moises Caicedo, although accepted by Brighton and Hove Albion, was rejected by the player. The Ecuadorean having publicly expressed his preference for Chelsea, left the Reds high and dry.

This came days before other target Romeo Lavea inflicted insult to injury when he also preferred the Blues of south west London, to the Reds of Merseyside. The developments left Liverpool not only humiliated, but now in dire need to restore their depleted midfield to one capable of challenging for honours.

The Ugly

Mo Salah’s reaction to being substituted at Stamford bridge. The club talisman was less than impressed when his number appeared on the board on 77 minutes. The flip side to the Egyptian’s show of petulance, was that young Ben Doak was given a run out. In fact he was joined by Harvey Elliot and Curtis Jones.

All three in addition to Darwin Nuñez were able to bring some fresh impetus to a game that had fallen flat for Liverpool, as they struggled make an impact.
